Every year the UoB MA Photography programme in Dalian, in collaboration with Dalian Image Art College invites experts from around the world to discuss a key issue relating to photojournalism, with particular reference to China. Below are some of the recent debates.

What are the Implications of new Privacy Laws in the West to Photography in China?

Panelists: Rupert Grey (Privacy Lawyer and Partner at Swan Turton in London), Wang Gang (Professor in Law at Dalian Technical University), Zhu Minghao (New Century Law Firm).
The issue of privacy and other legal matters in regard to photography in China were discussed at a one day event in Dalian, China. The conference was the second of in two weeks organised by the MA Photography course designed to raise important issues in Chinese photography.
Visiting speaker and renowned British privacy Lawyer Rupert Grey was joined by local lawyers to discuss the main issues affecting photographers.

Photography & The Cultural Revolution

The University of Bolton in association with Dalian College of Image Art, hosted a two day conference in Dalian, to discuss Photography and the Cultural Revolution. This is the first of a series of planned annual conferences connected to UoB's MA Photography that runs both in Bolton and in Dalian, and the research of photography lecturer DJ Clark. Highlights of the conference included lectures by photographers Li Zhensheng and Jiang Shao Wu as well as a critical debate led by New York curator Robert Pledge from Contact Press Images.
