Careers
The Photography MA is designed to enable practicing photographers to understand and interact with international image markets. Photographers working on a local level will be given intellectual and practical skills to engage with a wider audience thus enhancing their careers. The degree is specifically aimed at equipping students to work in different cultures and publish/exhibit their work in a range of contemporary international publications/galleries. The course will also give opportunities to further research degrees and careers in photographic education.

Terms
The course is one year in duration which is divided into three terms.

In term one students are introduced to eight key research questions which they explore through readings, lectures, discussions and practical assignments. In the first of half of term two students prepare two picture stories, one narrative and one issue based, which in the second half they go and shoot. At the end of term two students edit and discuss their projects with professionals, peers and tutors leading to preparations for continuing one of the two projects into term three. Students are given 10 weeks to expand work in progress into a substantial body of work from which they bring their studies to a conclusion with a major publication. Each student will negotiate a learning contract with a tutor from which the final project will be assessed.

Research Questions
Each year the course uses eight main research questions around which much of the discussion takes place (these may vary slightly from year to year). Click HERE to see a list of the research questions for last year.
